Everton can secure last-gasp Kieran Trippier swap deal after Newcastle transfer update

Everton may not have loads of money to spend in the final days of the transfer window, but Sean Dyche’s side are in the market for a few last-minute additions.

Reports suggest that the Blues could still look to secure two new signings before the 30 August deadline as Dyche looks to turn things around after a torrid start to the season [Give Me Sport, 24 August].

There could still be some movement out of Goodison Park as well, with several players being linked with moves away from Merseyside as the Toffees continue to face off the field and financial issues.

One man who has been linked with a last-gasp move away is Dominic Calvert-Lewin who has entered the final year of his contract and is yet to show any intention of putting pen to paper on fresh terms.

Reports from TBR Football (25 August) suggest the striker has made it clear he won’t sign a new contract which has led Newcastle United to consider making a fresh approach for his signature.

Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit Everton amid Newcastle transfer rumours?

While losing Calvert-Lewin to the Magpies would be a massive blow to Everton at this stage of the summer, it could well help them complete a deal for a player on their radar in the final days of the window.

The Toffees are understood to hold an interest in England international Kieran Trippier as Dyche looks to address the Blues’ lack of depth at right-back [David Ornstein, 22 August].

Eddie Howe has made it clear he would be reluctant to sanction the 33-year-old’s exit this summer, insisting that he has a key role to play at St James’ Park even though he is yet to start a Premier League game [Sky Sports Premier League, 25 August].

While Howe has done what he can to end speculation around Trippier’s future, he could be tempted to allow the defender to depart if he were to get Calvert-Lewin in return.

If a swap deal could be struck so that both clubs get their man and a bit of extra cash heads the way of Goodison Park, this could be a deal that suits all parties.

Everton will have addressed their defensive issues, Newcastle will have solved their striker problem and both clubs will have aided their PSR position as swap deals are notoriously helpful when it comes to balancing the books.

Whether or not this sort of transfer is even a possibility remains to be seen but on the face of it, it should appeal to both clubs.
