Everton hunt down Calvert-Lewin replacement as Newcastle United ready last-minute bid
Everton are eyeing up replacements for Dominic Calvert-Lewin as they brace themselves for a late bid from Newcastle United, according to GiveMeSport.
The news outlet reported on Monday (26 August) that Magpies manager Eddie Howe is desperate to tempt Calvert-Lewin, 27, to St James’ Park before the summer transfer window slams shut at 11pm on Friday (30 August).
It is understood that the Toffees are hunting an “emergency” replacement for the ex-Sheffield United striker, who’s reportedly earning £100,000-a-week, with a last-minute move to Newcastle firmly on the cards.
Newcastle in pursuit of late summer Calvert-Lewin swoop from Everton
It’s been a tough start to the season at Everton.
Sean Dyche’s side lost their opening two Premier League matches, two takeover bids have ended in failure, fans abused players at Euston station on Saturday and it feels like this final season at Goodison Park could go down in history for all the wrong reasons.
In all honesty, what difference would it make selling Calvert-Lewin?
Yes, he’s had injury problems in that time but that’s yet another reason why the club should really consider selling him to Newcastle, especially when his contract is up next year.

With the money made from selling Calvert-Lewin and getting his £100,000-a-week contract off the wage bill, Dyche and Kevin Thelwell should be able to sign someone young and hungry who’s proven to be a goal machine in the last few years.
There’ll no doubt be options in the Championship, in Europe or further afield.
In other Everton news, more worryingly, rumours about a late Jarrad Branthwaite move are growing louder.
