Everton make approach to sign Ernest Nuamah, he’ll get fans excited at Goodison amid £25m+ news

Everton fans should be excited by the potential signing of Ernest Nuamah from Lyon, according to Robin Bairner.

The French football journalist posted on X [28 August] to give his views on Nuamah, 20, who is also wanted by Nottingham Forest with Lyon wanting over £25m for his services.

L’Equipe reported on Wednesday morning [28 August] that the winger – who has only this summer been signed on a permanent deal by Lyon following a loan from Belgian side Molenbeek last season – had interested Saudi Pro League clubs, but is not interested in a move to the Middle East with Everton approaching Lyon with an enquiry.

Bairner shared about the Ghanaian: “Inconsistent but on his day really good. Will get fans excited. Still young and will only get better. Also interest from Saudi clubs here, but €30m [£25.2m] not a bad price for Everton or Forest.”

Everton in for Ernest Nuamah from Lyon

Nuamah appears to be a player with a high ceiling, and if secured by Everton, would not be the first to make the same move from Lyon after Jake O’Brien’s switch to Goodison Park.

The two clubs are potentially linked in a boardroom sense by John Textor, the Lyon owner who has entered exclusive talks to purchase a majority ownership in Everton from Farhad Moshiri.

Nuamah is far from the finished article in the eyes of those who have significantly watched him, but at 20 has time to be well-rounded in an environment where he can be nurtured into a top player.

The winger could help provide a creative output the Toffees have been lacking in the early stages of the season, having not yet netted a league goal, and could ignite the entertaining spark that will get fans off their seats.

With Lewis Dobbin sold and Arnaut Danjuma’s loan having finished at the end of last season, the club are yet to bring in a new wide player and Nuamah could be the answer.

Sean Dyche and the backroom team on Merseyside will be looking to add to their squad before Friday’s transfer deadline.
