Everton set to land Orel Mangala to replace big-money star after Goodison exit deal
Dan Bardell believes Orel Mangala signing on loan from Lyon will replace Amadou Onana at Everton.
The Toffees lost the 23-year-old to Aston Villa earlier in the window in a deal worth £50million, but the midfielder hasn’t been truly replaced.
Now Sean Dyche appears to have found his alternative with a medical booked for the Belgium international after verbally agreeing on a deal [Florian Plettenberg, 27 August].
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell isn’t sure about the £33.7m buy option but believes the temporary deal is a positive.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Bardell said: “Everton can’t throw money around at the moment, we all know that.
“They’ve already lost a midfielder in Onana and Tim Iroegbunam has come in. They need a more senior player to come in and replace what Onana could offer.
“Mangala is about as good as Everton can expect to sign. He’s got Premier League experience and in the circumstances, that is about as good as they could hope for.
“I can’t see them signing him permanently for the sort of fee involved.“
Everton set to sign Orel Mangala
Dyche’s side have been in desperate need of some physicality in midfield since Onana made the move away from Goodison Park.
There is no doubt that Mangala will add that and comes with Premier League experience which can only be a positive for the Everton squad.
The Belgian can come into the midfield alongside Tim Iroegbunam after the superb start to life in Merseyside that the former Villa man has had.

Add to this duo, more experienced midfield options like Idrissa Geuye and James Garner and the Toffees have a much stronger-looking core.
