Everton transfer talks held to complete double-raid as John Textor puts forward new signing

John Textor put forward the idea of a late Everton move for Ernest Nuamah from his Ligue 1 Lyon, according to TBR Football.

The outlet reported on their website on 29 August that transfer talks have been held over a move for the for the Ghanian winger, after the prospective Toffees owner had put the club onto him.

L’Equipe reported Everton interest on 28 August for the player who only completed a permanent €28.5million move to the French side this summer [£24m], with Nottingham Forest also on the case, while Fabrizio Romano reported via X on 28 August Fulham want him too.

According to TBR Football Arsenal are also monitoring Nuamah’s situation as Everton look to complete a “double-raid” of Lyon with a loan for Orel Mangala now close.

Everton in talks for Ernest Nuamah after Orel Mangala

With Mangala’s move surviving a hijack attempt from Fiorentina [Sacha Taviolieri, 29 August] as he heads in for a medical at Goodison [Sky Sports, 29 August] it looks like Textor’s presence is already paying some dividends at the end of the transfer window.

He may not yet own the club, and there are likely to be extensive hurdles to clear before that becomes a viable reality, but he has been in talks to drum up investment in Everton and is said to have bids on the table to sell his Crystal Palace shares now [Sky News, 26 August].

The Toffees finances are tight, and there have been complications around similar issues at Lyon [L’Equipe, 23 August], so it seems likely that these late pursuits could be a way for Textor to kill two birds with one stone.

As long as Sean Dyche is on board with the potential additions the club are probably not in a position to be choosers, as long as there is nothing that could come back to bite them at a later date.

Mangala would fill the midfield gap that the manager was unable to fill with Kalvin Phillips, while Nuamah could be the extra wide attacker that was slated to be Leeds United’s Willy Gnonto earlier this summer.

Given the club has been punished heavily for financial issues over the past year there may be some fans left slightly uncomfortable at the idea that they are suddenly looking to bring in valuable talent from Textor’s other club.

But on the surface it looks like a situation that could work in Everton’s favour to strengthen Dyche’s squad after a rough start to the campaign.

In other Everton news, Chelsea now “suddenly” like the idea of signing a Toffees player as a way to help Dyche sign one of theirs.
