Everton want to seal Lorenz Assignon transfer before August 30 as late talks begin

Everton are interested in signing Stade Rennais defender Lorenz Assignon before 30 August, according to Fabrice Hawkins.

The RMC Sport journalist reported via X (29 August) that the Toffees have opened talks over a potential loan with an option to buy.

Sean Dyche’s men aren’t the only side interested in Assignon, with Marseille also in the race.

Everton should go all out for Lorenz Assignon

One area of Everton’s team that is in dire need of reinforcement is that of their full-backs.

While the club have four decent options in terms of right-backs and left-backs, the fact that both Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman are both well into their thirties is a cause for concern.

It has also been shown since the season started that despite seeming to have adequate cover on either side of their defence, once Young was suspended, youngster Roman Dixon had to be called up for his debut.

Dyche has added Jake O’Brien to his ranks but after losing Ben Godfrey near the start of the summer transfer window, there isn’t that much quality in their depth.

Mason Holgate is a valid option but if his form over the last couple of seasons is anything to go off, the defender should be nowhere near the first-team.

It’s still early doors in Everton’s chase for the Rennes man but if they manage to pull the transfer off, it would increase their chances of Premier League survival tenfold.
