Everton ‘one to watch’ with new striker transfer now on cards

Everton are “one to watch” in the transfer market before the 30 August deadline, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist was speaking to GiveMeSport (29 August) and stated that the Toffees are set to be “active” for the remainder of the window.

It is suggested that a deal could still happen for a new striker, with several new additions mooted despite financial concerns at Goodison Park.

“They are one to watch for sure because they will be active on several positions,” he said.

“For example, something up front – I still think that something could happen in terms of opportunities up front, and they need something else.”

Everton should be looking at a number nine before 30 August

The Toffees have had a fairly active transfer window and have welcomed a plethora of new faces.

One area they’ve particularly focused on is that of their attack. Iliman Ndiaye and Jesper Lindstrom are just two names [Shamoon Hafez, 5 August] in terms of Sean Dyches’ best additions this window.

However, despite Lindstrom and Ndiaye undoubtedly increasing the effectiveness of their attack, if there isn’t a consistent number nine leading the line, the opportunities created could go to waste.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto are the number nine options right now but judging from their form last season, much more is needed if Everton wishes to improve their standing.

Beto’s future remains uncertain

The Toffees had welcomed Neal Maupay back from Brentford at the end of last season as he spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan with his former club.

Marseille have since agreed on a deal to sign the Frenchman, who will move in an initial loan deal which will turn permanent in 2025 [L’Equipe].

Only time will tell who Everton welcomes to the club, but, one thing is for sure, they’d be much better off if a number nine was added to their ranks.
