Everton make breakthrough to seal Ernest Nuamah transfer before 11pm

Everton have made a breakthrough in their attempts to secure the signing of Ernest Nuamah from Lyon before the transfer deadline, according to Harry Watkinson.

The TEAMtalk journalist reported on X [30 August] that the Toffees are pushing to get the deal over the line before Friday night’s 11pm cut-off, having beaten off late interest from Fulham.

HITC reported [30 August] that the Ghanaian had favoured a move to West London instead of Merseyside, but it appears Everton are coming through to restore pole position for his signing.

Everton look to beat Fulham to Ernest Nuamah

Everton were quoted £25.2m by Lyon [L’Equipe, 28 August] earlier this week to secure Nuamah, who only this summer completed a permanent switch after a buy clause in his deal from RWD Molenbeek was activated.

The 20-year-old winger would be an exciting prospect for the club to nurture, but 35 appearances for the Lyon first team is a positive feat for a player at this stage of his career.

Dwight McNeil and Jack Harrison remain the only out-and-out wide players in Sean Dyche’s first-team squad, and Nuamah would make a useful addition for depth.

Having completed the signing of Orel Mangala on a loan-to-buy deal from the same French outfit – owned by prospective Toffees buyer John Textor – the club have now brought in six new players in this window.

It appears, however, business is not yet complete on the blue half of Merseyside.

In other Everton news, a potential late exit for Mason Holgate is on the cards.
