Everton strike Mangala agreement after new round of talks, medical booked

Orel Mangala will undergo a medical with Everton on Friday morning (30 August), according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sports Germany journalist reported via X (30 August) that the midfielder will undergo his medical tests at Goodison Park “probably in one hour.”

A deal has been agreed upon with Lyon, and after a new round of talks, Mangala will join the Toffees on a straight loan.

The 26-year-old’s contract with Lyon is valid until 2028.

Orel Mangala to join Everton at Goodison Park

This was an important bit of business for the Toffees to get over the line before 11 pm on Friday (30 August).

And provided that everything goes smoothly with Mangala’s medical tests, the midfielder looks as though he will be joining Sean Dyche’s squad for the remainder of the season.

Some supporters at Goodison Park might feel frustrated that there is no buy option included in the agreement. Should Mangala shine while on loan with the club, it might be difficult for Everton to sign him up permanently without a buy clause.

However, after the start the club have made to the season, it was just important for them to get bodies through the door. Therefore, this could prove to be a very important bit of business, even if it is only a short-term solution.

The priority will be to remain in the Premier League ahead of moving into their brand-new stadium, and Mangala might well help them do that.

In other Everton news, Dyche is keen to reunite with a former player at Goodison Park.
