Mason Holgate exit update shared at Everton after late Lyon approach

Mason Holgate has seen a permanent transfer from Everton to Lyon collapse, according to Paul Joyce.

The Times journalist shared via his personal X account [30 August] that a Deadline Day move has fallen through.

Further details on the collapsed transfer have yet to be shared, but it comes amid rumours of Sheffield Wednesday being interested in a loan deal [Alan Myers, 30 August].

Mason Holgate left in Everton limbo

Everton clearly have no plans for centre-back Holgate, and the defender is surely eager to get minutes elsewhere.

A move to Ligue 1 with Lyon is surely no coincidence given all the goings on with John Textor behind the scenes.

Quite why this move broke down remains to be seen, but it may well have something to do with rumoured interest from English Championship clubs – Wednesday being one of them.

Holgate may well prefer to play for a club nearby, rather than relocate abroad on a full-time basis.

All Everton will care about is getting the best deal possible. Sending him out on loan will do the club no good at all.

Let’s just hope Wednesday, or any other interested parties, are willing to discuss a permanent deal before the 11pm deadline.
