Neal Maupay goes out of his way to burn all bridges at Everton – ‘Disaster’
Dan Bardell thinks Neal Maupay leaving Everton for Marseille on Deadline Day is a deal that suits everyone after his social media activity.
It is safe to say that the Frenchman’s spell at Goodison Park since signing from Brighton hasn’t worked out as anybody would have hoped.
An already sour relationship between supporters and the 28-year-old was made worse after he shared a clip to X on 29 August of Andy Dufresne escaping Shawshank State Penitentiary in reference to leaving the Toffees.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes the striker has purposely burnt bridges with the club in an exit which benefits everyone involved.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Bardell said: “His spell at the club has been a disaster considering it was quite a high outlay for him.
“He kind of rebuilt himself at Brentford last year and did pretty well but it was made clear there was no future for him at Everton and it looks like he’s gone out of his way to fully burn those bridges.
“I think for the player and the club it is better that he goes and isn’t there for the season.“
Neal Maupay takes bizarre Everton swipe before Marseille move
Sean Dyche and Co. have managed to offload the striker on an initial loan with a surprisingly positive £6million buy option which could rise to £10m [Matt Jones].
It appeared that it had become toxic with the former Brentford man despite him featuring and even scoring in pre-season for the Toffees.
The straw that broke the camel’s back appeared to be an altercation with fans in a train station which Maupay openly criticised, and fairly so, on social media.
It doesn’t feel like this is a departure that the Goodison faithful are going to be particularly bothered by.
This was only made less so by the incoming loan deal for Armando Broja who joined on a season-long loan from Chelsea.
