Everton insider shares ‘big’ Manchester City claim after latest Premier League PSR news

Bryan King is curious to see how Manchester City’s alleged 115 charges play out after Everton avoided paying a £4.9million legal bill.

The ex-Goodison scout believes clubs in the Premier League will be looking very carefully at their finances.

It comes after The Times reported on Wednesday (4 September), that the Toffees will only need to pay a third of the £4.9million legal costs from last season’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules case.

It leaves the Premier League to pick up the rest of the bill, which has raised concerns over how much it could cost the league to handle the alleged 115 rule breaches by Manchester City.

And King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – has described that situation as “the big one”.

“I am going to be very interested to see how the Manchester City case pans out,” King said.

“Everton, Leicester and other clubs have had small issues here and there. However, 115 alleged cases are to be heard. That will therefore be the big one, what is going to happen with these cases, what is going to happen if they’re found guilty or not guilty?

“Everton fell foul, the same as Nottingham Forest, two teams that were fighting relegation and had points deducted, and fines imposed.

“I for one feel that clubs in the Premier League will be looking at their finances, and the way they have done business over the last 18 months, very thoroughly.”

Everton case raises concerns for the Premier League over Manchester City?

While the £4.9million legal bill involved in the Toffees’ case is small in terms of footballing finance terms, it does represent a much larger issue at play.

Those were the costs for one simple PSR case. Therefore, that means the legal costs involved in dealing with Manchester City’s 115 alleged breaches could reach a staggering amount.

As a result, the Premier League are going to have to think long and hard about how they approach the situation.
