Everton now in stronger position to bounce back from ‘spectacular collapse’
Everton have had a stronger summer than many fans would have expected and can recover from their poor start to the season, according to Chris Beesley.
The Liverpool Echo journalist reported on 7 September that while the Toffees’ 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth made it three Premier League defeats in a row to start the new season, all hope is not lost.
Beesley argued that despite being bottom of the table, Sean Dyche still has a stronger squad than many fans would have expected, having kept both Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer.
He said; “while nobody inside Goodison Park a week ago had ever witnessed anything like the Blues’ spectacular late collapse, Sean Dyche’s side are actually in a much stronger position to bounce back from their disappointing start.
“With both Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin still at the club, eight signings through the door and 777 Partners – the hugely controversial Miami-based private investment firm who had spent the bulk of the campaign attempting a takeover – having gone away, then most would have surely taken that.”
Can Everton pull themselves out of the mire with players returning?
With the new season’s first international break underway, the Toffees have it all to do and are sat rock-bottom of the Premier League table amidst an injury crisis at Goodison Park.
Prior to his side’s 4-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on 24 August, Dyche said publicly that he had just 14 players available, with highly-rated defender Branthwaite being one of his main absentees this season.

Branthwaite’s return to the side cannot come soon enough, and with new signings like Jesper Lindstrom, Iliman Ndiaye and Jake O’Brien yet to be fully integrated into the team, things appear to be looking up.
Deadline Day arrivals Orel Mangala and Armando Broja will also both have parts to play once up to speed with the rest of the squad, giving Dyche the chance to use different combinations in his new-look squad.
However, one thing Dyche doesn’t have on his side is time, and thus he will be under pressure to get the best out of his new players as soon as possible or risk the prospect of being sacked if Everton’s poor start to the season isn’t turned around soon.
