Everton takeover saga takes ‘significant’ twist after John Textor public comments

Simon Jordan has shared his thoughts on the takeover of Everton after the public statement from prospective owner John Textor.

The 58-year-old made a public statement on Wednesday [11 September] saying that he has a “90 per cent chance” of purchasing Everton [Le Progres].

Jordan, alongside co-host Jim White, discussed the developments on talkSPORT [12 September], including the significant revelation made by Textor on the Blues’ finances.

He said: “The most interesting thing about all of this is that Textor says fans should know that Everton are pretty well off right now and have some good cash to support themselves.

“That’s a very different story to the one told by the so-called experts, about how desperate Everton’s needs are.

“It’s a pretty significant statement to add to the mix that Everton are pretty well off now.”

Jordan added that he sees no reason why Textor will not complete the takeover at Goodison Park if he successfully shifts his Crystal Palace shares.

Everton are not in financial trouble according to John Textor

Everton do indeed have money – enough to keep the club ticking along, at least – but it must be remembered just how many loans have been taken out.

It has been well-documented for the past year that the Blues are in financial turmoil, with the latest reports from the Daily Mail [6 September] stating that the club is racking up debt exceeding £600 million.

In the last season alone, Everton were docked eight points for two breaches of the Profit and Sustainability Rules and found themselves desperately offloading players to avoid another penalty before the 30 June deadline this summer.

The £50m sale of Amadou Onana to Aston Villa was the Blues’ biggest sale this summer and would not have scratched the surface of the reported debt at Goodison Park, not to mention the £200m loan supplied by the Friedkin Group [The Esk] during their takeover talks will need to be paid by June 2025.

Regardless of the financial situation, it seems that finally, Everton will be under new ownership soon. The Toffees released a statement [12 September] responding to Textor’s comments and all but confirmed that the deal is nearing completion.

It has been a long and gruelling saga for Toffees fans with their club in limbo for the past year. However, it seems the Blues will not have to wait long before Farhad Moshiri waves goodbye to Merseyside.
