Seamus Coleman injury update after Everton team news v Aston Villa

Seamus Coleman has lost his fitness battle to take part in the Everton squad against Aston Villa on 14 September.

Liverpool ECHO journalist Joe Thomas shared the news on X that Coleman failed to make it after his injury on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.

Ashley Young has come into the starting XI in the only change made by Sean Dyche, with new signing Orel Mangala also on the bench for the first time.

Everton need to get some points from the Aston Villa game

The Toffees had a surprisingly strong transfer window that saw the club welcome the likes of Jake O’Brien and Iliman Ndiaye to bolster their ranks.

Despite their positive window, things haven’t quite gone as expected for the Toffees.

Dyche’s men are rock bottom of the Premier League table and are in dire need of a solid performance, with limited new signings starting games.

So, it feels quite surprising that the team which faced Bournemouth in their 3-2 loss has kept their places in the starting XI, aside from Coleman of course.

Both Jack Harrison and Gueye had poor performances against the Cherries and while Ndiaye and Iroegbunam both played well and deserved to keep their spots, the former two didn’t.

Indeed, once Armando Broja is available there could be some changes to the lineup but, until then, if Everton want to change their fortunes, it feels silly to keep trying the same team in the same formation when it evidently isn’t working.

Without the experience and commitment of Coleman, let’s hope it’s not a long evening.
