Kevin Nolan shares ‘unbelievable’ Sean Dyche sack verdict at Everton

Sean Dyche will be aware he could be sacked by Everton at any moment but should be given time to turn around their fortunes, Kevin Nolan has said.

Speaking on the BBC Football Daily podcast (15 September), the former Bolton and West Ham midfielder said that despite Dyche doing an “unbelievable job” at Goodison Park, his sacking could be imminent.

The Toffees suffered a late 3-2 loss against Aston Villa on 14 September, surrendering a 2-0 lead for the second game running to leave them rock-bottom of the Premier League table without a point.

Nolan said: “The job he’s done is unbelievable and brilliant but there’s no doubt that as a manager, and knowing Sean, that he’s not sitting there thinking – ‘it could come at any one point’

“But what he did last year, after what happened, was unbelievable, and I think he can still do that this year, leading them into a new stadium. I feel that if he’s allowed to work, he’ll get there.”

Does Sean Dyche deserve more time at Everton?

Disposing of Dyche just four games into the new Premier League season would certainly be a rash decision for the Toffees’ hierarchy to make, with over 100 points still to play for at this early stage.

However, signs from the last two matches don’t look all that favourable for Dyche, with his side suffering second-half collapses in differing circumstances against Bournemouth and Villa.

The latter loss was somewhat to be expected – given Villa had dominated but for two quick sucker punches from Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin giving the Blues a shock 2-0 lead.

However, the writing has arguably been on the wall for Dyche since the profound collapse on home soil against Bournemouth, conceding three times in a nine-minute spell to leave Goodison in disbelief.

Nolan’s own belief that Dyche can still turn things around may prove to be true, but until he addresses the issues which have left his side wilting in dramatic fashion, the spectre of the sack will loom over Dyche for the foreseeable future.
