Jason Cundy cannot believe what he saw Everton do v Southampton

Jason Cundy was left aghast after Everton crashed to yet another defeat against Southampton on penalties in the Carabao Cup on 17 September.

After struggling to a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park, it was Ashley Young who saw his spot-kick saved to send the Toffees crashing out.

Their winless streak has now extended to three across all competitions with Sean Dyche hoping to end the run against Leicester City on 21 September.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (17 September, 22:10), Cundy could not believe what he had watched.

“Everton fans, oh my god,” he said. “You lost 6-5 to Southampton on penalties, is it one of those where you think you couldn’t care less?

“You wonder what it will do for Southampton because you want to win. Everton fans must be thinking what have we got to do to see a win.”

Everton need to find a way to turn their form around

Everton have had a poor start to their 2024/25 campaign across all competitions. The Toffees find themselves rock bottom of the Premier League with zero points to their name.

While things aren’t yet at breaking point at the club, it doesn’t feel like there’s much patience left within the fanbase having to watch their team lose each game.

The Toffees had a fairly decent summer transfer window with a plethora of talent being brought in, managing to target key areas within the squad that needed bolstering.

However, as the pressure mounts upon Dyche [The i, 17 September], it’s looking more and more likely that the club could be on the lookout for a new manager before the January transfer window comes around.

What doesn’t help matters is that three players were ruled out of the tie against Southampton due to illness that forced Dyche into some last-minute changes.

There’s still plenty of time for the club to turn things around but if they don’t start kicking into gear soon, Everton could find themselves in a rather sticky situation.
