Jordan Pickford baffles with what he did for Everton v Leicester City, ‘Oh my gosh’

Jordan Pickford has left Sue Smith baffled after an incident in the Premier League clash between Everton and Leicester City.

Sean Dyche’s side managed to pick up their first point of the Premier League season with a 1-1 draw with the Foxes at the King Power Stadium on Saturday (21 September) thanks to Iliman Ndiaye’s first-half goal.

Although the Toffees were dominant for much of the game, Sky Sports pundit Smith was left on the edge of her seat after Pickford nearly dropped a cross from Stephy Mavididi into his net under very little pressure.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (21 September, 15:35) she said: “Oh my gosh.

“Leicester City have been absolutely brilliant. Thankfully Jamie Vardy is back on the pitch and seems ok but Jordan Pickford has just got away with one there and you could say it’s probably due to the weather.

“Mavididi picks the ball up on the left-hand side and he just crosses the ball and you think it’s quite an easy save from Jordan Pickford, he just comes to collect it at his near post.

“He goes like that, parries it and it hits the bar and hits the post. You think it’s gone over the line, it hasn’t he manages to pick it up.

“Jordan Pickford will be very pleased that didn’t go in.”

What has happened to Jordan Pickford at Everton and Goodison Park?

Having been so consistent between the posts for Everton over the last couple of seasons, it feels as though Pickford has saved up all of his errors for the start of the new campaign.

The England international has looked like a shadow of his former self in the opening weeks of the new term and while he got away with his mistake against the Foxes, that was more by luck than judgement.

Of course, the weather conditions at the King Power Stadium did make it hard for the stopper to get a solid grip on the ball, but that sort of cross should be bread and butter for a keeper with as much experience as Pickford.

Hopefully, the England international will continue to settle down as the season continues.

Dyche doesn’t exactly have another Premier League-level number one waiting in the wings to replace the stopper so he will be hoping he rediscovers his best form.
