Newcastle United are prepared to enter talks with Dominic Calvert-Lewin if he decides against signing a new Everton contract, according to Give Me Sport.

The outlet reported on its website on Friday (20 September) that Eddie Howe's side are considering reigniting their interest in the England international next year having looked to sign him this summer.

Sean Dyche's side are understood to remain hopeful that the striker could put pen to paper on new terms at Goodison Park as he enters the final 10 months of his current deal on Merseyside.

But Howe is believed to be keen to bring Calvert-Lewin to the northeast next year and the Magpies are believed to be ready to hold discussions with the forward if he decides to leave Goodison as a free agent.

Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit Everton amid Newcastle transfer rumours?

This Calvert-Lewin to Newcastle saga has been rumbling on for months now at Goodison Park and it has become incredibly frustrating for everyone involved on the blue half of Merseyside.

The Toffees made the bold decision not to cash in on the England international this summer, in what was their last chance to pocket a big fee for his services. On the pitch that has already proven to be a sensible call, but financially, it still isn't clear.

If the 27-year-old puts pen to paper on a new contract at Goodison, his valuation will once again increase and that will likely end Newcastle's interest in him for the foreseeable future.

However, if the new contract remains unsigned and Calvert-Lewin makes the move to St James' Park for nothing next term, questions will almost certainly be asked of the Toffees' decision not to cash in during the summer.

The striker is Dyche's most reliable source of goals and while he isn't the perfect forward, the Blues should be doing everything in their power to tie him down to new terms sooner rather than later.

They cannot risk leaving it too late as the forward's head could well be turned by the Magpies' constant interest.
