Sean Dyche baffles BBC pundit with what he did right before Everton clash v Leicester
Andy Reid has been left “baffled” by Sean Dyche’s decision to name just eight substitutes for Everton at Leicester City.
Ahead of an already crucial clash for the pointless Toffees at the King Power Stadium, Dyche has called up one sub short of a full bench, which also includes two goalkeepers.
Former Republic of Ireland man Reid told Mark Chapman on BBC Radio 5 Live [21 September, 14:14]: “What message are you sending at the moment when we’re outside of the transfer window, to not name a full bench?
“I don’t get it. Why not put one of the young players in there to gain a bit of experience? Even if they’re a bit younger and one of your ‘high-potentials’, you know they could be an asset moving forward, it would be a great experience for them.
“I would definitely have had one of those players to fill the bench.”

Reid’s statement can be echoed here – a seemingly ideal opportunity to include another young player in the Everton squad for a first-team matchday experience has been passed up here.
While Dyche will have his reasons as he names his team, it just appears unnecessary as Reid says to send what was mooted to be a “message” to the board on a lack of depth throughout the squad.
When Reid discusses “assets”, he hints at a valid argument that inclusion in a matchday squad can elevate the market value or selling point of a player moving forward, even if they do not see the pitch.
The debate will be flushed away immediately if the Toffees can pick up a much-needed victory – even a point would stop the rot and get something on the board.
If ever there was a time for the ‘six-pointer’ cliche to be trotted out in September, it would be for this fixture in the East Midlands.
