John Textor slammed for ‘spouting his mouth off’ after new Everton takeover update

Alex Crook has slammed John Textor for “spouting his mouth off” about Sean Dyche after new takeover developments at Everton.

The Toffees confirmed in an official statement on Monday (23 September) that the Friedkin Group had reached an agreement with Blue Heaven Holdings to acquire Farhad Moshiri’s controlling stake at Goodison.

Textor was understood to have entered a period of exclusivity [David Ornstein, 15 August] and had even gone as far as to discuss Sean Dyche’s position [Sky Sports, 11 September] much to the frustration of talkSPORT journalist Crook who slammed the American’s comments.

Writing on X on Monday (23 September) he said: “The funniest thing about this EFC story is John Textor spouting his mouth off about the abilities of a manager of a club he was never close to owning.”

Why didn’t John Textor take over Everton after new Goodison Park developments?

Textor was slammed at the time by pundits and fans alike for discussing Dyche’s position before a deal had been agreed with Moshiri and it does feel as though that has come back to bite the American billionaire.

While the Friedkin Group has always been lurking in the background of developments on Merseyside, there seemed to be a genuine sense of confidence from Textor that he would get this deal done before anyone else.

The Palace co-owner was well backed and seemed to be on course to get his hands on Moshiri’s controlling stake, but somehow, Dan Friedkin has re-emerged from the shadows to win the takeover race.

Textor will have surely been left frustrated by these developments. Although his comments around Dyche are unlikely to have impacted his takeover bid, it didn’t increase his popularity with Evertonians.

It will be interesting to see how Friedkin approaches Dyche’s future in the coming weeks and months as the Englishman enters the final year of his contract.
