A new contract for Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Everton is not advanced and there has been no substantial change to his situation, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer specialist reported via his Daily Briefing column (22 September) that there have been no concrete developments around the striker's contract at Goodison Park, with a decision not yet close.

Newcastle United are understood to be one of the clubs interested in the striker's services, with several teams keeping tabs on the England international's contract situation as he enters the final 10 months of his current deal.

Writing in his Daily Briefing, Romano said: "There is nothing concrete or advanced yet in terms of a new Everton contract for Dominic Calvert-Lewin. It’s something they are likely to decide in the next months, no substantial changes now.

"There’s not only Newcastle among clubs interested - many other clubs are also attentive to his situation at Everton, but again, I’ve been told it’s not a topic for September for sure."

Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit Everton amid Goodison Park transfer update?

Everton will be eager to resolve Calvert-Lewin's contract situation as soon as possible, but with so much uncertainty still looming around Goodison Park, the Toffees cannot afford to rush into any big decisions.

Farhad Moshiri has all but ended his involvement on Merseyside as he looks to sell his controlling stake in the Toffees and it feels unlikely that the Blues owner will be in a rush to hand out and pay a new big-money contract.

Maybe if a new owner were to come in at Goodison in the coming months, they would be more willing to make Calvert-Lewin the sort of contract offer that could tempt him into extending his stay with Sean Dyche's side.

Ultimately, with the transfer window now shut and a few months before it opens once again, the Toffees don't need to rush negotiations with their striker.

In an ideal world, they will somehow manage to agree on new terms before the January window opens however to stop Calvert-Lewin agreeing on a free transfer overseas.
