The Friedkin Group takeover back on at Everton as John Textor involvement update drops

John Textor is not involved in The Friedkin Group’s bid to complete their takeover of Everton, according to Dave Powell.

The Liverpool Echo journalist reported the news on Monday [23 September] after it had emerged that The Friedkin Group were now closing in on a deal [Bloomberg].

A partnership between the two prospective owners had been mooted [Alan Myers] but Dan Friedkin is now pushing ahead of Textor in talks with Farhad Moshiri.

Who will complete the takeover of Everton?

After a “huge” change over the weekend [Alan Myers] not many would have expected Friedkin to return to the table after walking away from a potential deal in July.

A deal between the AS Roma owners and Moshiri is expected to include an equity investment of up to £500 million [Myers] to balance the books at Goodison Park.

The pressure is now on Textor to finalise the sale of his stake in Crystal Palace, the delay in the sale has allowed Friedkin to pounce after also reaching the latter stages of an agreement with Moshiri.

In the past 24 hours, the situation has accelerated to the point where it feels like the takeover saga is about to be resolved and, the constant updates on Friedkin and Textor make it incredibly difficult to determine who is the more likely to take the reigns at Everton.

Either way, this is a win-win situation for Evertonians, both prospective buyers have good track records in football, and a significant upgrade on the negligence the supporters have been forced to experience under Moshiri.

One certainty is Friedkin and Textor will not join forces at the Blues and as more updates continue to trickle through, the race between the Americans is set to heat up in the battle for Goodison Park.
