Daniele De Rossi appointment mooted at Everton after Friedkin takeover update

Paul Scholes has mooted the possibility of Daniele De Rossi replacing Sean Dyche at Everton once the Friedkin Group acquire the Toffees.

The Blues boss’ future is expected to come into focus once the takeover is completed, with the Friedkin’s planning an audit of footballing operations at Goodison Park [i News, 23 September].

Although it isn’t yet clear if the perspective new owners will part ways with Dyche, Scholes believes the Friedkins have already shown their “ruthless” streak during their time in charge of Serie A giants Roma.

Speaking on The Overlap on Wednesday (25 September, 51:40) he said: “With these new owners coming in, we’ve just seen what they have done at Roma.

“I think they can be quite ruthless and to get rid of a hero in De Rossi after four games, you wonder whether they will stick with him.

“It might be De Rossi.”

Will Everton sack Sean Dyche amid Goodison Park takeover developments?

It would be a surprise to see the Friedkin Group appoint a manager so quickly after they had sacked him from a role at one of their other clubs, but stranger things have happened at Everton over the last few years.

While Dyche isn’t going anywhere yet, it does feel as though the Englishman’s days at Goodison Park are already numbered, especially with his contract expiring at the end of the Premier League season.

The former Burnley boss may be the right man to help the Toffees stay up this term, but if the Friedkins want to climb the Premier League table, they may well feel that a change in the dugout is necessary at this stage.

Whether or not De Rossi would be one of the managers considered if Dyche were to depart remains to be seen. The prospective new owners will likely already have several potential replacements in mind in case they have to pull the trigger.

For now, all Dyche can do is get back to winning ways in the Premier League to try and show his future employers that he is the right man for the job, for this season and beyond.
