Friedkin Group told to make new Sean Dyche decision after recent Everton update

Henry Winter has told the Friedkin Group that Sean Dyche deserves a chance to prove himself after recent developments at Everton.

The Roma owners have agreed a deal to acquire Farhad Moshiri’s controlling stake at Goodison Park and are understood to be planning an audit of footballing operations [i News, 23 September].

While speculation is already swirling around Dyche’s future as he enters the final months of his contract, former Times journalist Winter believes the Englishman should remain in post until at least the end of the season.

Writing in his Substack column on Friday (27 September) he said: “I hope Dyche gets the chance to take Everton into the new stadium or at the very least see the season out, keep them up again, and depart with thanks and a pay-off.

“And yet if they lose to Palace and then to Newcastle United next weekend, both at Goodison, the speculation will intensify around Dyche. International breaks are prime moments for managerial exits.

“All the talk about his future must annoy Dyche, who never feels he’s properly appreciated anyway. More significantly, the uncertainty can’t make preparing players for games any easier.

“It’s very easy to argue a manager should go but suggesting a capable, available replacement is another issue.

“Has Julen Lopetegui proved an immediate success as successor to David Moyes at West Ham United? Many fans wanted Moyes out. Would Gareth Southgate be the answer at Everton? Would Maurizio Sarri?

“Dyche deserves the chance to prove himself to TFG.”

Will Sean Dyche exit Everton amid Goodison Park takeover developments?

As Winter suggests, while plenty of Everton supporters will feel that the time is right for Dyche to exit Goodison Park, it is unclear who should be coming in to take the place of the Englishman in the dugout.

There are few managers in the Premier League currently with more experience of keeping teams in the division. During his time on Merseyside alone, the current Blues boss has dodged the drop to the Championship on two occasions.

If the former Burnley man manages to do so for a third consecutive season this term, maybe then the time might be right for him to walk away and another manager to take over the reins to try and propel the Toffees up the table.

Of course, form needs to improve over the coming weeks as Dyche himself needs to show the new owners that he is capable of winning matches.

A win over one of Palace or Newcastle before the international break could be enough for the current manager to show the prospective new owners he’s the right man for the job, for now.
