Ashley Young reacts to Aston Villa v Ipswich Town controversy live on Sky Sports
Everton star Ashley Young admitted that Sam Morsy was lucky not to get sent off for Ipswich in their 2-2 draw against Aston Villa on 29 September.
The Toffees defender was a guest in the Sky Sports studio and insists Kieran McKenna was worried watching the Egyptian dive in on Jhon Duran.
Young is no stranger to a red card himself, having been sent off already this season against Brighton on the opening day of the Premier League.
Speaking live on Sky Sports Main Event [29 September, 16:02], Young reacted to a flash point from Portman Road in an entertaining clash.
“I think Kieran McKenna was pretty worried on the sideline,” he said.
“He goes into make that challenge and you think to yourself, ‘you’ve been booked already, you need to take your time’, but it was worrying for Kieran.
“He managed to stay on the pitch and the referee didn’t send him off in the end, so they were lucky.”
Ashley Young reacts to controversy away from Everton
It finally feels like the spotlight has disappeared from Goodison Park after a huge week.
After it was finally confirmed that The Friedkin Group had agreed to a takeover, which could be completed within eight weeks [The Guardian], that first win of the season arrived against Crystal Palace.
Young was on Sky Sports to talk about matters away from Everton though, and he was likely right about this incident.
Officiating in the Premier League is at an all-time low, despite all the technology and help they receive, they still can’t get the big talking points right.

Young didn’t believe the Bruno Fernandes challenge warranted a red card for Manchester United against Tottenham, although he was in the minority, so maybe he isn’t the best judge.
Thankfully, there were no controversial moments to take Everton off the rails from those huge three points over Palace, and the only way is up now for the Toffees.
In other Everton news, Birmingham could bid £10m to beat the Toffees to the signing of one Championship starlet.
