Everton transfer strategy under Friedkin Group now clear after Roma chief’s comments today
Roma sporting director Florent Ghisolfi has hinted at how the transfer policy at Everton could look once The Friedkin Group completes its proposed takeover at Goodison Park.
The finances at Goodison limited Kevin Thelwell slightly this summer and forced the Blues chief to utilise the loan market to improve the side.
Those days appear to be over once Dan Friedkin becomes the figurehead at Everton, with Ghisolfi revealing in an interview, as reported by Liverpool Echo [3 October], the transfer strategy in Rome that could be replicated on Merseyside.
He said: “We have a long-term goal of three years, but we also focused on the market and the performances of the players.
“We no longer signed players on loan with high salaries, we lowered the squad’s average age and the wage bill.
“The average age has dropped by 1.5 years, in a league like Serie A in which the average age has risen for everyone.”
Everton set to enforce a long-term transfer strategy under TFG
In an ideal world, Everton would have unlimited resources to build a side capable of challenging towards the top end of the Premier League table. However, Thelwell moved well in the transfer market this summer despite the financial constraints.
Iliman Ndiaye, one of the four permanent Goodison Park signings alongside Jake O’Brien, Tim Iroegbunam and Asmir Begovic, has been one of the standout performers for Sean Dyche this season and looks undroppable on the left flank of the attack.
Orel Mangala has slotted into the Blues midfield since his loan signing from Lyon. Armando Broja will provide much-needed competition at striker once he returns from injury and, despite receiving some early criticism this season, Jasper Lindstrom still could become an important player for Dyche.

The loan signings are low risk with the potential for high rewards and should serve the Blues well to compete against relegation this year. However, a more long-term strategy in the transfer market will elevate the club to new heights.
An influx of multi-million-pound signings is not the only answer – a hard lesson Evertonians learned with the 2017 summer transfer window. But seemingly, Friedkin is looking to implement his expertise from Roma and target younger players with high ceilings to base his Everton rebuild.
For Blues fans, this will be music to their ears and they could be set for a far more exciting 2025 as far as the transfer windows go.
