Friedkin Group takeover update issued at Everton as definite progress made towards completion

Everton are making definite progress towards their takeover The Friedkin Group, according to Alan Myers’ latest update.

The Sky Sports journalist responded to fans via X on 6 October to predict the move would be done by the end of November.

A joint statement was issued on 23 September after Dan Friedkin suddenly returned to the table to beat John Textor to a deal, having backed out of a previous bid in July.

And amid speculation that he came back when he did due to a need to spend in the January transfer window there remains hope the takeover will be done by that.

Myers replied to the request for an update: “Just getting it done as far as I know”.

He added to another asking if progress was being made: “It is, my guess has always been end of November but don’t know for definite, it’s definitely progressing”.

Dan Friedkin set to replace Farhad Moshiri at Everton

The Friedkin takeover isn’t expected to run into any unforeseen hurdles this time, with confirmations from those connected to multiple creditors emerging already.

Premier League approval is not thought to be a problem [Ben Jacobs, 23 September], and the even complicated nature of the legal case around A-Cap and the £200million owed to 777 Partners isn’t likely to actually derail the deal despite the need for a new judge ruling [Liverpool Echo, 3 October].

But the sooner everything is completed the better for a club that has had far too many false dawns in terms of Moshiri moving on.

There is thought to be some “wiggle room” from a PSR perspective to spend in the January window [Matt Slater, 27 September], although not a great deal [Kieran Maguire, 26 September] so if Friedkin can get in ready to spend what is permitted then it could make all the difference to the season.

Until the entire episode is officially confirmed and Friedkin has said his first words publicly as the new owner the fanbase won’t entirely be able to rest easy, but it does appear everything is moving in the right direction.
