Jamie Carragher ridiculed over latest Everton post after what happened v Newcastle United

Jamie Carragher has been been made to look silly on social media following Everton’s goalless draw with Newcastle United on Saturday (5 October).

The former Liverpool defender originally got involved in an online spat, arguing on X about the club’s social media taking a dig at former star Anthony Gordon’s penalty miss at Goodison Park.

With a fan asking why the Toffees should not be allowed to take the mick out of the 23-year-old, having forced his way out of Merseyside in 2023, Carragher’s reply absolutely deserves to be hammered.

Taking to X later on Sunday (6 October), he wrote: “Of course you can, as you did yesterday! And will do for the next 10 years at Goodison when he comes back, but you don’t expect the official club socials to do it.”

Jamie Carragher makes a fool of himself as Everton fans mock social media posts

There are two layers to this social media spat, and Carragher’s suggestion that the Toffees will be playing at Goodison Park for the next 10 years is his first mistake.

His credibility was thrown straight out the window as soon as he made that mistake, especially with social media being such a brutal place, and Blues fans are unlikely to listen to him anyway.

Secondly, Everton fans will feel they have every right to make fun of their former player for missing the penalty, given the grief and upset he caused as he pushed to move away from Merseyside.

He was also linked with a move to the Red side of Merseyside during the summer transfer window, which saw him emerge as an even more controversial figure amongst the Goodison faithful.

So, in short, Gordon absolutely deserved the mockery after missing from 12 yards against Jordan Pickford, especially after taking it upon himself to take the penalty in Alexander Isak’s absence.

In other Everton news, Chris Sutton has hit out at what one Toffees fan said live on air about a senior figure at the club.
