Sean Dyche exhausted at Everton after what happened in draw v Newcastle United

Joe Thomas has suggested that Sean Dyche has become exhausted with decisions going against Everton after the draw with Newcastle United.

The Toffees headed into the international break with a 0-0 draw against Newcastle United on Saturday (5 October) after Jordan Pickford managed to save Anthony Gordan’s first-half penalty at Goodison Park.

Everton felt they should have also had a penalty when Dan Burn appeared to foul Dominic Calvert-Lewin and while Dyche believed it deserved a spot-kick, Liverpool Echo journalist Thomas believes the manager is fed up with discussing such decisions.

Speaking on the Royal Blue YouTube channel (7 October, 18:49) he said: “He disagreed with the decision, he thinks it was a penalty.

“I think there’s a degree of exhaustion, to be honest. I think that I maybe just exhibited the same kind of approach in my answer there as well.

“There’s almost a bit of fatigue on this where you kind of assume things are going to go against Everton when it comes to these 55, 45 per cent calls when it comes to these grey areas.

“To be honest, that is probably a theme that might continue when we discuss the other penalty incident.”

What happened to Dominic Calvert-Lewin for Everton against Newcastle United?

As Thomas suggests, it does feel as though almost every decision that could go against the Toffees over the last few seasons has been given against them, particularly since Dyche arrived at the club.

Most fans would be willing to accept that James Tarkowski had committed a foul in the first half to hand Gordon his spot-kick. However, if that challenge deserves to be punished, Burn’s tackle should have been as well.

There is a lack of consistency across the Premier League when it comes to the official’s decision making and while there is little fans or clubs can do about it, it is only natural that frustrations are going to continue to emerge.

Hopefully, some progress will be made sooner rather than later so that Dyche and the Blues fans can finally ditch the sense of fatigue that has been looming in and around Goodison Park over the last few years.
