Everton blasted over ‘rubbish’ social media post that made Sky Sports journalist ‘uncomfortable’
Dan Bardell has slammed Everton for their social media activity after Anthony Gordon missed a penalty for Newcastle United against Everton.
The Toffees played out a goalless draw against the Magpies on Saturday 5 October with the main flashpoint being a penalty miss from the ex-Evertonian.
The official social media account of Everton has since reacted with multiple videos with one including a buzzer after the England international’s spot kick is saved by Jordan Pickford.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell isn’t a fan of this reactionary content, believing it is unprofessional.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Bardell said: “Expected, understandable from their standpoint.
“I always find it uncomfortable when an official club social media page starts acting like a football banter account, Everton should as a club be better than that.
“Reaction in game is part and parcel of football, but the Twitter stuff is rubbish.“
Everton slammed for social media posts after Newcastle controversy
The Toffees came away with a point from Goodison Park despite conceding a penalty after a bizarre challenge from James Tarkowski.
Gordon’s penalty miss was one of the moments of the season so far in terms of pure noise and atmosphere within the stadium.
This noise was nearly matched when demanding a penalty after a Dan Burn challenge on Dominic Calvert-Lewin which wasn’t given.
There has been plenty of frustration surrounding this but it won’t matter after VAR waved away the decision.
This hasn’t stopped the official social media of the Toffees react in an unprofessional manner with multiple strange and unnecessary posts.
Some fans may be a fan of this content but it isn’t a good look for a club with the size and stature of Everton.
In other Everton news, Stelling and McCoist have raved over one star who ‘looked lively’ against Newcastle.
