Everton set to take minimal hit on takeover after new legal developments

Everton are likely to take a minimal hit over Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules if the Friedkin Group completes their takeover before the turn of the year, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported [9 October, page 66] that the Premier League could change laws over shareholder loans, of which the Toffees are the most exposed.

However, it is understood the benefits of these loans are unlikely to be backdated, suggesting Farhad Moshiri’s cash injections will not cause more damage to the club.

Everton to take minimal hit after new Premier League developments

The Premier League look to be changing up the rule book as their legal battle with Manchester City trundles on, and other clubs in the division are being caught in the crossfire.

City are supposed to be the ones being poked and prodded, but following a victory for the current champions, APT rules could change rather quickly to rule out something like this happening again.

The Merseyside club have already been handed two separate points deductions last season, with a possible third on its way to Goodison Park [Mike Keegan], but the main ones suffering are the fans.

Passionate supporters at Goodison Park just want to know they’re able to watch their club next weekend, rather than focusing on the financial side of the sport, most of which is absolutely confusing.

Friedkin’s proposed takeover has come as a huge boost for the Toffees, especially considering the difficult times they have been through in recent seasons.

Moshiri leaving the club with a further hit as he exits would be rather disappointing as a new era emerges, with a new owner, a new stadium, and potentially a whole new set of players.

Luckily for the Friedkins, it looks set to be just a “minimal” hit, which the Americans can certainly handle if they are to complete their takeover at Goodison Park.
