Beto days could be numbered at Everton amid Goodison Park developments

Chris Beesley believes Beto’s Everton days are now numbered amid the impending integration of Armando Broja.

The striker has struggled since arriving in Merseyside last season and has been unable to usurp Dominic Calvert-Lewin from the starting XI.

It was reported by Quotidiano Sportivo (14 October) that Juventus could propose a loan deal to take Beto to Turin in January.

Speaking on the Royal Blue Podcast (14 October), Beesley shared his thoughts on how likely the Portugal international is to have a future at Goodison Park.

“He’s not getting the minutes is he,” he said. “Everton typically only play with one striker and they have had Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto alongside one another on a couple of occasions but it just didn’t seem to work.

“Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the number one striker at the club and to be fair, one of the things we’ve been concerned about in the past with Dom is that durability and he’s been available.

“Beto hasn’t been increasingly getting a look in and Armando Broja is also in the pipeline so you can understand why Beto is possibly looking like his Goodison Park days could be numbered”.

Everton must sell Beto as soon as possible

Everton seem to have been under some sort of curse when it comes to their strikers over the last few seasons.

Calvert-Lewin and Beto have both rarely hit the back of the net but the former undoubtedly offers a more imposing presence when leading the line than his team-mates does.

Beto was one of Dyche’s marquee signings in the summer of 2023 and it’s one that hasn’t really worked out for the Toffees.

Calvert-Lewin is the clear number one at the club and as the Toffees have now entered talks with him over extending his Goodison Park stay, many will hope that he commits his long-term future to the club [TEAMtalk, 13 October].

With Broja closing on a return to action, it would seem that Beto’s chances of regular gametime are even more limited, so Beesley is right to suggest that his days are numbered.

Beto’s Everton stint has left a lot to be desired and there’s no doubt that the best thing for both parties would be for Everton to cut their losses and sanction his exit as soon as possible.
