Ashley Young shares what ‘Fantastic’ Everton teammate Iliman Ndiaye makes easy

Ashley Young has praised “fantastic” teammate Iliman Ndiaye for his impact since arriving on Merseyside last summer.

Ndiaye has been a standout player in what has been a slow start to the season for Sean Dyche’s side amid ongoing takeover rumours.

Speaking on talkSPORT (17 October), Young was full of praise for his teammate and said that his work on the ball and willingness to run at opposition players makes his life easier as a defender.

He said: “He’s been fantastic since he came in, all the boys that have signed have done well since they come in.

“When you’ve got a winger like that who wants to get on the ball, who wants to create things, who wants to score, it’s easy for a defender playing behind him giving him the ball and seeing him do his work.”

Everton need more players to realise their full potential

Ndiaye has been arguably Everton’s best player so far this season despite an apparent lack of goal contributions but his all-around play has been excellent and most importantly, consistent.

The same can’t be said for all of Dyche’s squad, who started slowly but have taken five points from the past three games prior to the international break.

Everton have a squad full of talent that should be a lot higher in the table. Players like James Garner, Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert Lewin have all played important roles for the Toffees but still have a lot more to offer, especially the latter.

While a lot is certainly down to a lack of overall creativity, Calvert-Lewin has managed just two goals so far this season and the striker is capable of much more.

If Everton are to avoid a relegation battle this season, it is vital that the squad steps forward and takes responsibility for their own performances. With 31 games remaining, Everton can still have a successful season.
