Dan Meis hits back over new Everton Stadium claims at Bramley-Moore Dock

Dan Meis has defended the capacity at the new Everton Stadium, despite suggestions it could have held more at Bramley Moore Dock.

The Toffees will move into their new home ahead of the 2025/26 season, with 52,888 fans set to descend onto the Merseyside waterfront.

However, the likes of The Esk have insisted the stadium should’ve been bigger, but Meis, who is the architect and brains behind the project, hasn’t taken kindly to suggestions on X [25 October].

“As I have said, this obsession over a few thousand seats is unfounded,” he wrote.

“There were several factors that drove the decision, some economic and some practical. It simply isn’t true that a larger capacity would guarantee more revenue in the long run.”

Everton set for Bramley Moore Dock

Next summer, the Blues are scheduled to kick off the 2025/26 season at Bramley-Moore Dock [BBC, 15 December 2023], marking a new era at the club.

It shows the ambition, with Tottenham’s new facility proving how the fan experience can be improved.

Goodison Park can currently hold 39,572 fans and with the new stadium, that will go up by over 10,000, which is a significant increase.

But it does feel a bit on the lower end, considering how Spurs have over 60,000 seats, leaving Evertonians questioning why the Toffees couldn’t have something similar.

With more fans in the stadium, Everton could earn more revenue from ticket sales, which Meis appeared to disagree with.

It’s disappointing to see that not being the case, the Friedkin Group might be listening to the fans’ concerns, with the impending new owners considering expansion already once the takeover is complete [The Athletic, 25 October].
