Jarrad Branthwaite contract update emerges at Everton as Manchester United eye transfer

Everton cannot afford to offer Jarrad Branthwaite a contract extension at Goodison Park, according to Sami Mokbel.

The Daily Mail journalist reported on Thursday (7 November) that Manchester United are considering reigniting their interest in the 22-year-old, whose current deal expires in the summer of 2027.

Sean Dyche is reluctant to lose the defender midway through the season, but the Toffees could be tempted to cash in on Branthwaite sooner rather than later if a new contract isn’t agreed with the defender.

United and other Premier League clubs have been alerted to the defender’s current situation after he was left on the bench for both of the Blues’ last two Premier League matches.

What has happened to Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite at Goodison Park?

While it seemed as though Everton held all the cards over Branthwaite’s future this summer, it now seems as though the power may not be with the Toffees, but with the player instead.

Dyche cannot afford to lose Branthwaite this January. He may have barely played so far this season, but he is still the best player in this current squad and the most valuable from a financial standpoint.

While his exit would see the Toffees land a major financial windfall which could be helpful as they look to bolster their ranks midseason, it would be next to impossible to replace the centre-back without spending big in January.

Hopefully, the Blues will be in a better position to tie the 22-year-old down to a new deal once the Friedkin Group’s takeover is completed at Goodison Park.

The new owners should have the money to be able to offer the England international a reasonable pay bump and all but end United’s chances of securing a deal.

The sooner the takeover is completed the better for everyone involved on the blue half of Merseyside.
