Sami Mokbel shares if Everton ace Jarrad Branthwaite will make England squad
Everton ace Jarrad Branthwaite is unlikely to be named in Lee Carsley’s final England squad, according to Sami Mokbel.
The Daily Mail journalist reported on Thursday (7 November) that the 22-year-old England international is not set to be included in the Three Lions squad for clashes with both Greece and the Republic of Ireland.
With John Stones and Harry Maguire injured the defender would have likely been a contender to be included, but injury issues have limited his involvement in Everton’s Premier League season so far.
So far this term, Branthwaite has only managed to start one Premier League game, with his other two appearances coming off of the bench.
What has happened to Everton ace Jarrad Branthwaite at Goodison Park?
This international break could well have been Branthwaite’s chance to establish himself as a starter on the international stage, but injuries have really stopped the defender from getting going so far this season.
Undoubtedly, the 22-year-old is the best defender in Sean Dyche’s side currently and when he is fully fit, he will almost certainly replace Michael Keane in the starting XI and slot into the backline alongside James Tarkowski.
After such an impressive breakthrough campaign last term, most pundits and fans expected the centre-back to really kick on this term. Through no fault of his own, he hasn’t yet been able to match the levels he set for himself.
From the Toffees’ point of view, it is probably a good thing that he won’t be going away with England this month. It means the defender is much more likely to avoid injury which could be a major boost to Everton’s hopes of survival.
Hopefully, Branthwaite will be back to his brilliant best on the other side of the November international break so that he can force his way into Thomas Tuchel’s squad next year.
