Everton goalkeeper Asmir Begovic makes Goodison Park admission
Asmir Begovic admits it is “not the easiest” representing Everton and understands the pressure to play for the club.
The veteran goalkeeper rejoined the club earlier this season for his second spell, as an understudy and “big brother” to Jordan Pickford.
Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast featuring Sam Allardyce [7 November, 04:54], Begovic explained the details of his role at Goodison Park.
“I want to compete with and push Jordan, and help the team. I need to be a bit of a big brother at times. I was here in a similar role two years ago,” he said.
“I have a really good affiliation with the club, and I understand and embrace my role. It’s not the easiest of places to play, so I’m happy with the relationship I have with the team; the staff; the fans.
“The pressure at Everton is something I love.”
Asmir Begovic one of several ideal leadership figures at Everton
Alongside Sean Dyche and his staff, the likes of Seamus Coleman, Ashley Young and even Pickford himself helps massively in terms of leadership at Everton.
Begovic very much falls into the same category, despite his background involvement when it comes to actually performing on the pitch.
The 37-year-old returned to Goodison perfectly aware of his role, having been first-choice stopper for QPR in the Championship last season.

Pickford has had little realistic competition to threaten his place since arriving on Merseyside in 2017, and is as a result now closing in on 300 appearances for the Toffees.
But the concept of Begovic’s recent experience will always serve to push the England man in exactly the way the club intend.
