David Moyes return to Everton on the cards after latest Friedkin Group development

David Moyes’ return to Everton could be on the cards once The Friedkin Group have taken over the club from Farhad Moshiri.

Things seem to be going smoothly regarding the American company taking over Moshiri’s 94 per cent share of Everton, with no bumps in the road cropping up just yet even if the process has dragged on.

Of course, Everton won’t be the only club under Dan Friedkin’s his control as he also currently owns Serie A side Roma.

Plenty has been going on in Italy over the last couple of weeks regarding the managerial position at the club, with Ivan Juric being relieved of his duties after less than three months in the role.

Much like they did when they brought Daniele De Rossi in, the Friedkin’s have now hired club legend Claudio Ranieri to try and get their team back on track.

And, with their history of hiring managers and who have a long-standing history with the club, it feels only natural the doors could now be open for a Goodison Park return for Moyes.

Speaking to BBC Radio Merseyside (14 October), Italian journalist Andy Mattioli shared what the Friedkins’ track record of hiring and firing managers has been liked since their takeover four years ago.

“The main reason for this mess is not just the results, but also the players not accepting Daniele De Rossi being sacked,” Mattioli said.

“When Jose Mourinho was sacked, that was a big blow but the Friedkins made the smart choice to appoint a club legend. They knew fans wouldn’t rebel against De Rossi.

“His sacking then took everyone by surprise. The Roma fans are very expressive so, for the last two months, they have shown it. They have hung banners, deserted the Stadio Olimpico and the ultras have walked out on a number of occasions.

“There is a tense atmosphere which has come from the Friedkins – whether they realise it or not – disrespecting a club legend”.

Why David Moyes would be a good hire for Everton

Sean Dyche’s Everton contract is set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season and, although the club are currently outside of the drop zone, they’re still well in the relegation battle.

They spent a decent amount of money in the summer but it’s clear that further improvements are needed to improve their results.

In Everton’s case, there isn’t a more suitable candidate than the Scotsman due to his prior history on Merseyside.

He knows the club inside out and even carried his West Ham United squad to a ninth-placed finish last term.

These are all rumours of course but with the Friedkins’ track-record, a return for Moyes could well be in the works and his return could be exactly what the Merseyside outfit needs to get out of their rut.

The Friedkins have twice gone for someone strongly associated with the club with regards to managerial appointments at Roma, so who is to say the same will not be true at Everton?
