Jordan Pickford Everton myth dispelled amid ‘incredible’ verdict
Andros Townsend has dispelled the “myth” that Jordan Pickford doesn’t perform as strongly for Everton as he does for England.
This season, the goalkeeper has once again been one of the Toffees’ most consistent players and has been a top performer at Goodison Park now for a number of years.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club Podcast in quotes relayed by the BBC Sport website (19 November), Townsend says it is wrong when people say his ex-teammate plays better for country than club.
“The biggest myth in football is that Pickford only plays well for England and never does well for his club,” said Townsend.
“One of the big reasons Everton are still in the Premier League is because of Jordan Pickford, time and time again, his saves, his performances, he’s been incredible.
“I’m glad he’s finally getting the credit he deserves in an England shirt but yeah I wish he’d get the credit for all he’s done in an Everton shirt.”
Everton need to keep Jordan Pickford for as long as possible
Everton without Pickford among their ranks this season would likely be far worse off than they currently find themselves.
Their season started poorly and even caused concern among fans about whether Sean Dyche was the right man to lead their team.
Concerns over the suitability of Dyche going forward remain, that is true, but by and large there has been an improvement on results if not performances.

Pickford is undoubtedly still one of the club’s best players and without his “crucial” save in the dying embers of their 0-0 stalemate against West Ham United in the Premier League on 9 November, they’d have left the London Stadium with nothing to show for their efforts.
While no rumours have surfaced recently about the future of the Englishman lying elsewhere, if he keeps up this level of form, it’s hard to see how clubs won’t start throwing their hats into the ring.
