Alex Crook shares Sean Dyche sack verdict at Everton ahead of Merseyside derby

Alex Crook believes Sean Dyche will remain at the Everton helm after the Merseyside derby on Saturday, regardless of the result against Liverpool.

However, the talkSPORT pundit maintains the stance that Dyche “knows the writing is on the wall” after the 4-0 loss against Manchester United on Sunday [1 December], despite suggestions the 53-year-old is the perfect man to steer the side away from relegation.

Crook discussed the ongoing situation at Goodison Park on Premier League All Access [2 December, 26:48] and feels Dyche and Everton are in a “loveless marriage” waiting for The Friedkin Group to end the relationship.

Asked if Dyche will stay in charge after next weekend, he said: “I think he will be, but I think he knows the writing is on the wall.

“I described it on Sunday as a loveless marriage where both parties know they’re heading for the divorce but they’re just staying together for the kids as Henry Winter put it.”

Sean Dyche is biding his time at Everton

The move to Bramley-Moore Dock at the end of the season is a fresh start for Everton and the perfect opportunity to press the reset button.

Dyche performed a remarkable job on Merseyside, steering the Blues out of the relegation zone on several occasions and recording a 15th-place finish last term despite two PSR point deductions – he should be commended for his achievements.

However, as the final campaign at the historic Goodison Park is set to be tainted with off-field drama, the lack of progress under the boss is alarming, and a new figurehead is overdue to lead the side into the new era.

As Crook previously alluded to, Dyche understands he will be dismissed from his duties before the end of the season, and despite the results, the mere fact he is still trying his utmost to salvage what remains of the year, knowing he will not be around to reap the rewards is a testament to his character.

But still, the Blues are winless in their last five Premier League outings and will now face an “outrageous” fixture schedule heading into the New Year and, in all likelihood, will spell the end of Dyche at Goodison Park, if the TFG takeover continues on course.

The supporters are ready for change, and it will come soon enough; the mood on Merseyside is as hopeless as ever – perhaps a second spell with David Moyes in charge could be exactly what is needed to bring the joy back to Everton.
