Everton players land Sean Dyche in trouble after feckless collapse v Man United
Sean Dyche would have questioned why he was bothering himself with the Everton job after his players shot themselves in the foot against Manchester United on Sunday, according to Ian Ladyman.
The Toffees suffered a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of the Red Devils at Old Trafford on 1 December, with errors from Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski making things easy for the hosts.
Ladyman was baffled after seeing the Merseyside-based club’s feckless collapse and felt it could get Dyche in trouble.
“All football teams make mistakes. All players fail from time to time. Rarely like this, however. Rarely as fecklessly as this”, the journalist wrote in his column on the Daily Mail’s website [1 December].
“This is the type of episode that gets managers in to trouble and at times here Everton’s Sean Dyche must have stood there and wondered why he was bothering.”
With games against Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City coming up this month, Ladyman added that it is scary to think where Dyche and Everton would be by the end of the run.
“This was a most peculiar spectacle and given that Everton have to play Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City between now and Boxing Day it is a rather frightening thought as to where Dyche and his team may be by then”, he wrote.
“They face Wolves at home on Wednesday and that already feels like a game they must win.”

Branthwaite is one of Everton’s best players, while Tarkowski has established himself as a dependable for Dyche at Goodison Park. Yet, both of them were guilty as the Toffees succumbed to a harrowing defeat at Old Trafford ahead of a tough schedule.
As Ladyman wrote, Dyche is now under immense pressure as he faces an arduous task to keep the Merseyside outfit away from the relegation zone over the festive period. Only two points separate them from 18th-placed Wolves.
The Friedkin Group’s takeover of the club dragging on might perhaps be the only reason why the former Burnley boss is clinging on to his job, although Farhad Moshiri can still sack him [The Esk].

With the takeover expected to go through by mid-December, the 53-year-old’s time at Finch Farm may soon come to an end.
In the meantime, Everton will look to bounce back when they host fellow relegation-battlers Wolves on Wednesday [4 December]. Considering the situation, it is definitely a must-win game for Dyche and co.
