Pickford display in Everton draw v Arsenal summed up by Tim Sherwood in one word
Jordan Pickford left Tim Sherwood in awe after his “outstanding” performance for Everton in the 0-0 draw against Arsenal.
The 31-year-old has been the subject of intense scrutiny throughout the season as part of the Blues’ struggles, but was instrumental in securing a share of the spoils at the Emirates on Saturday [14 December].
Sherwood couldn’t believe what he was witnessing from the Everton shot-stopper live on Sky Sports News [14 December, 3:44pm], as he had all the answers to the Arsenal attack.
He said: “Jordan Pickford’s made another save. If you’ve got him in your fantasy [football] team, you’re delighted at the moment – a clean sheet, and he’s made about five saves.
“He’s been outstanding.”
Jordan Pickford single-handedly earns Everton a point v Arsenal
Pickford was warned he could lose his position as England number one if Everton are relegated from the Premier League this year, and he clearly took this personally.
However, in turn, the Toffees would struggle to retain Pickford in the face of relegation despite reports that he remains happy on Merseyside [TEAMtalk].
He looked like a man possessed at the Emirates, dealing with everything Mikel Arteta’s men threw his way.
Arsenal were even nullified in their infamous set-piece routines, and while the Blues failed to utilise their new-found effectiveness from dead-ball situations, keeping the likes of William Saliba and Gabriel quiet on the day is an impressive feat.

Pickford may have his doubters, but he is undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and has proven it again in North London.
Everton are not out of the woods in the relegation battle, but with Pickford between the sticks, Dyche’s men are in safe hands.
