Everton must strengthen in January after The Friedkin Group takeover

Everton must sign quality players in the upcoming transfer windows under The Friedkin Group (TFG), Michael Ball says.

The Toffees have already held talks to sign Hakim Ziyech from Galatasaray [Jeunes Footeux, 23 December], and the former defender wants to see the new owners be active in the coming months.

Ball cited Brighton as an example of a club that the Blues should strive to emulate off the pitch and hopes for something similar at the Merseyside outfit under Dan Friedkin.

In the Liverpool Echo [25 December], the 45-year-old wrote: “We still want better from the players we’ve already got, but when it comes to the transfer windows in January and the summer, there has to be an idea to bring in more quality in the starting line-up.

“In terms of our on-field performance, we were level on points with Brighton & Hove Albion last season and while they keep selling their best players, they’re run fantastically and recruiting the right replacements to ensure they remain at a certain level, while we’ve been left playing catch-up.

“We need a new lease of life in the transfer market with talented players who want to be part of the start of this journey under the Friedkin Group.”

Everton need reinforcements in January transfer window

TFG were expected to make some funds available for new signings in January after their takeover [TEAMtalk, 11 December].

But David Ornstein has revealed they are unlikely to spend big in the upcoming transfer window [NBC Sports, 22 December], which will disappoint some Goodison faithful.

The Toffees evidently need reinforcements in the coming month, considering their lack of quality options in certain positions.

While Everton can possibly survive the drop with the squad they have at the moment, the Friedkins need to at least sign a reliable number nine in the upcoming transfer window.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has failed to consistently score goals, while Beto has been underwhelming at the Toffees.

The Blues also have Armando Broja at their disposal, but it remains to be seen what the Albanian can do after returning from a lengthy layoff.

Farhad Moshiri’s tenure was marred by mismanagement and bad recruitment, which TFG must avoid if they hope to succeed at the Blues.
