Mike Dean reacts to Everton v Nottingham Forest controversy on Sky Sports

James Tarkowski should’ve been sent off for Everton in their Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest Premier League, Mike Dean says.

In the 45th minute of the game between the Toffees and the Tricky Trees at Goodison, the centre-back lunged into a challenge on Chris Wood while already being on a yellow.

The former Premier League referee believes the defender should’ve seen red after already being cautioned earlier in the fixture for a foul on Ramon Sosa.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (29 December), Simon Thomas asked: “Do you think it should’ve been more Mike?”

Dean responded: “Yeah, it’s an easy caution. He’s took the player out first, then he’s got the ball after he’s took the player out. For me, it’s a clear second yellow card, and he shouldn’t be on the field.”

James Tarkowski having nightmare in Everton v Nottingham Forest

Tarkowski had a nightmare against Nuno Espirito Santo’s team, having been culpable for conceding the game’s opening goal, and Morgan Gibbs-White got the second to seal a 2-0 victory for the visitors.

Chris Wood received a ball over the top and went past the Blues’ captain with ease before beating Jordan Pickford to find the back of the net.

Sean Dyche also has Michael Keane and Jake O’Brien at his disposal at the Merseyside outfit but has relied on Tarkowski.

Jarrad Branthwaite has been ever-present in the Everton starting lineup since his return from injury, and it looks like the 53-year-old head coach has his preferred pairing at the back.

The Toffees have been solid at the back in recent matches against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City but struggled at Goodison to keep out Forest.

While Dyche deserves credit for the recent results, the Blues can’t afford to lose points, as they risk relegation.

The Merseyside outfit have more tough fixtures ahead of them in January and need to regain their defensive stability.

In other Everton news, the sale of Branthwaite must be resisted after the Tottenham development.
