Everton could keep hold of Dominic Calvert-Lewin as Fiorentina role emerges

Dominic Calvert-Lewin may be inclined to see out his Everton contract with Fiorentina only planning to use him as Moise Kean’s deputy.

Italian outlet CalcioMercato reported on 28 December that while the Serie A side are keen on signing Calvert-Lewin, and could pull the trigger on a move as soon as January, he won’t be a first-choice pick.

Calvert-Lewin is out of contract at Goodison Park next summer with Fiorentina ready to table a huge contract offer, but regardless, the 27-year-old will be playing second-fiddle to former Blue Moise Kean.

Kean has already scored 14 goals in 21 appearances in all competitions this season, compared to just two in 17 for Calvert-Lewin, but the Blues striker will still want to be the main man wherever he plays.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin won’t leave Everton to be second-choice

Calvert-Lewin couldn’t be in a more luxurious position at the moment when it comes to his future at Goodison Park, and arguably holds all the cards given he’s still one of the first names on the team sheet.

Able to sign a pre-contract with clubs outside England – like Fiorentina – in January with his current deal expiring in June 2025, Calvert-Lewin could see several impressive offers tabled in the coming weeks.

Furthermore, with the Friedkin Group having just completed their takeover on Merseyside, the Toffees can finally begin negotiations with their key players knowing that they have the finances to match.

The 11-cap England striker can therefore weigh up his options throughout January before deciding where his long-term future lies, all while likely remaining Sean Dyche’s first-choice pick at centre-forward.

That certainly won’t be the case should a move to Fiorentina come to pass either in January or the summer, and that may push Calvert-Lewin towards seeing out (at least) this season at Goodison.

In other Everton news, a Premier League club have already held discussions to sign one of the Toffees’ key players in January.
