Match of the Day pundit reacts to shocking Everton info he’s told live on air
Ashley Williams described the current goal situation at Everton as “shocking” following their 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The Toffees saw their four-game unbeaten run come to an end on 29 December with what was another dismal performance in front of goal at Goodison Park.
With recent links to Italian outfit Fiorentina (Alan Nixon), Dominic Calvert-Lewin was benched in an attempt by Sean Dyche to address the attacking woes but it backfired.
Match of the Day presenter Kelly Sommers shared the “scary” stat that showed they have scored just 31 goals from 132 shots on target in 2024.
Ex-Toffees defender Ashley Williams immediately reacted to the stat on Match of the Day [29 December] and said: “They’ve wasted so many crosses and they’re getting into good positions and being wasteful.
“They just need to be a lot better in the final third and the graphic [showcasing Everton’s goal record] is a shocking one.”
Attacking woes continue to haunt Everton
Defensively, Everton have looked more than capable of avoiding any relegation battle this season but at the other end of the pitch, the lack of ability is becoming increasingly concerning.
Out of all the sides in the Premier League, the Toffees have scored the least goals in 2024 and when you consider some of the quality they have on paper, it begs the question as to where it is going wrong.
Of course, the dull style of play Dyche has adopted at Goodison Park is a factor but the stats showcase that finishing is the biggest downfall, and there’s little that Dyche can do to influence that.

Attacking reinforcements are essential in January and the signing of a striker needs to be considered despite the Toffees having four on their books.
Failure to address the goalscoring woes will be their biggest downfall and could ultimately be the sole reason for a serious relegation battle.
