Friedkin decision to directly impact Everton finances after takeover

Everton could have their finances impacted by The Friedkin Group picking their flagship club after the takeover, Dan Plumley has said.

Looking at the losses of Roma over the years, £489.4million since the Friedkins took over (Calcioe Finanza), the football finance expert admitted it wasn’t a direct concern for Everton.

Plumey did, however, admit that the interesting question is where the priority of the Americans lies, with either club set to be impacted by the decision.

“I think it’s an interesting one this,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“I wouldn’t see it as a direct concern for Everton and look at that in the context of we know that Italian football has struggled with profitability in recent years.

We know it is still playing catch up to some of the bigger leagues in Europe and the Premier League as example.

They don’t have PSR as we have in England, so you have to context Roma’s losses within the Italian football industry, it’s not going to directly impact Everton in that regard.

Friedkin impact hits Everton after takeover

I think what is interesting, both for Roma and Everton moving forward, is the wider conversation of where the priority is for that ownership group, is it now Everton?

“Does it shift to Everton being the flagship operation or is it still Roma and that’s the more interesting angle? I think, for me moving forward, that will then impact on the finances of Everton and Roma depending on strategy.”

The Friedkins have enjoyed relative success with Roma, winning the Europa Conference League without turning over too many stones domestically.

With financial issues rife at most clubs in Italy though, it shouldn’t be too much of a concern for Everton, who are just about getting to clearer waters after Premier League trouble.

Colin Chong is one of few existing boardroom members expected to stick around after the takeover, with new appointments pointing to a brighter future under the Friedkins’ direct control, regardless of where the priority lands.
