Calvert-Lewin faces bleak reality at Everton after Sean Dyche transfer admission

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been left red-faced at Everton.

The 27-year-old has shown “no inclination” to extend his stay at Goodison Park [BBC Sport] and is now free to sign a pre-contract agreement with sides outside of England.

However, Sean Dyche revealed in his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash against Bournemouth on Saturday (4 January) that the Blues have yet to receive an approach for the striker.

Despite intense speculation heading into the January transfer window, Calvert-Lewin could very well find himself on Merseyside heading towards the door with no exit plan in sight.

Everton to have the last laugh over Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Goodison News exclusively reported on 15 October that Everton remained committed to offering Calvert-Lewin fresh terms, and yet, over two months later, no agreement was reached.

The Englishman has clarified his feelings, and all roads appear to be heading towards an inevitable end to his eight-year spell on Merseyside.

He was believed to be one of the hottest commodities available in the winter market, with Atalanta the latest Serie A outfit to express interest [Alfredo Pedulla] joining Italian rivals Fiorentina, AC Milan, Juventus and AS Roma in the race to secure his services.

Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa are also reported landing spots should the forward wish to remain in the Premier League [AsRomaLive], but the trio will have to negotiate a fee with Everton in January to fend off interest from abroad.

However, there appears to be a standoff at Goodison Park – Calvert-Lewin has been available for three days and yet no one has stepped forward to formalise their interest.

Perhaps a forward considered in the prime years of his career, scoring only two Premier League goals in 18 appearances is not the highly-coveted asset he appeared to be.

Regardless, Everton will have the last laugh when all is said and done. Calvert-Lewin has hardly covered himself in glory this season, and Dyche can turn his attention to addressing the lack of goals in January while his current number-one forward wastes away in the dugout until his contract expires.
