Everton to drop ‘tens of millions’ to sign new midfielder in new transfer update

Everton are revisiting a deal for Strasbourg talent Habib Diarra and are ready to make an offer, according to Foot Africa.

The online source reports [3 January] that the Toffees are ready to drop “tens of millions” to acquire the 21-year-old’s services in January, with close sources believing £16.6million could be offered.

It is understood, however, that Sean Dyche’s side face competition from Stade Rennais for the talented star, who are also interested in the midfielder whose current deal runs out in 2028.

Diarra was also linked with a move to Goodison Park back in the summer, with the Toffees making contact over a possible transfer [TEAMtalk], though a deal never materialised with the French club.

Sean Dyche to reinforce Everton midfield during January transfer window

Dyche’s midfield is actually one of the strongest segments of his squad, with Idrissa Gana Gueye and Orel Mangala holding down the fort while Abdoulaye Doucoure wanders into the final third.

However, he has been without James Garner and Tim Iroegbunam for far too long, which could force his hand with the January window now open.

Despite this, the striker position seems to be the most of Dyche’s worries this month, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto both struggling in front of goal.

Oddly, both figures have been linked with big-money moves away from Goodison Park, which would leave Armando Broja as the only option through the middle, and he is not a long-term fix.

While Diarra would be a sensible purchase, especially for a price as low as £16.6million, he would not be able to single-handedly fix the goalscoring problem at Goodison Park.

He has three goals and one assist in 14 league matches so far this term, scoring some audacious attempts, but he is by no means a striker, which should be what Kevin Thelwell is searching for this month.
